Madonna's long-gestating biopic seems as far away from being realized as ever, and may even be morphing from movie into a TV series. But fans of the Material Girl can take heart: A new trailer has arrived for an upcoming documentary focused on The Queen of Pop. "Becoming Madonna" premieres on Dec. 30 on British platform Sky.

Variety reported that the doc is "an immersive and archive built film around recently uncovered audio tapes in which a young Madonna reflects on her life and career."

"The film shows the star as 'we've never seen her before,' according to a statement, with rare footage, unseen photos and intimate recordings with those close to her during her rise to fame, some of whom have never spoken in a documentary before," the writeup added, before detailing that the doc "charts the period 1978-1992 as Madonna transformed herself from insecure 19-year-old outsider to the most controversial pop star in the world, with the publication of her erotic photography book 'Sex.'"

The doc delves into losses Madge endured early in her life (such as the death of her mother) and in her career, when men she worked with – "her dance teacher Christopher Flynn and close friend Martin Burgoyne," Variety detailed – perished during the height of the AIDS epidemic.

The film hits British TV even as the "Vogue" singer reportedly heads back into the recording studio to commence work on her next album. Her epic "Celebration" tour wrapped up earlier this year.

No international distribution deal for the doc is in place yet, but that doesn't mean Madonna's fans won't be clamoring for it.
