Katie Hill's 'Staff' Responds to News of Elisabeth Moss Playing Out Ex-Congresswoman in TV Show
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
It was announced this week that Elisabeth Moss will play former Congresswoman Katie Hill in an upcoming TV show based on her memoir. But someone claiming to be part of Hill's former staff is not happy with the news and voiced themselves using her official Congressional Twitter account.
Variety reports the project, from Blumhouse TV, will be based on Hill's memoir, which came out in August, called "She Will Rise: Becoming a Warrior in the Battle for True Equality." The book follows Hill's rise as California's first out bisexual Congressperson and, later, her resignation after her intimate photos were leaked and it was revealed she had a relationship with a staffer. Also chronicled in the book is the domestic abuse she endured in her personal life.
"I am so honored to have the opportunity to portray Katie and to help tell her story. Her strength and work to amplify women's voices is incredibly inspiring to me and her experiences could not be more important for us to magnify right now," said Moss, who starred in "The Invisible Man" earlier this year from the company. "As always, Jason and the Blumhouse team are such incredible partners and Lindsey and I are thrilled to make something powerful with them and Michael."
Variety notes that Hill is serving as executive producer on the project.
"I wrote 'She Will Rise' to try to take back my story from those who have exploited and twisted it. I also wanted to shine a light on the stories of women whose resilience and bravery gave me strength when I needed it most, and hopefully to provide inspiration to others," Hill said. "Having this larger platform to tell this story, working with the talented team at Blumhouse and Michael, and the incredible Elisabeth Moss as the lead, is more than I ever could have imagined – I am so grateful for the opportunity and look forward to collaborating on this project."
Not long after the announcement was made, someone claiming to be part of Hill's "former staff" fired off a series of tweets from Hill's official Congressional Twitter account, Vulture points out.
"Katie's former staff here. Disappointed in so many folks - including Elizabeth [sic] Moss, @Blumhouse, & @michaelseitzman - regarding today's announcement," the first tweet reads. "This is an incredibly sensitive situation. We appreciate the instinct to defend our former boss, an LGBTQ+ woman who faced abuse from her husband. What happened to Katie Hill shouldn't happen to anyone. But, this moment requires more nuance, as Katie Hill's story - our story - is also one of workplace abuse and harassment."
Hill, nor anyone involved in the upcoming TV project, has responded to the Twitter thread, which you can view below.
