An Exclusive Chat with Cheyenne Jackson

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.

He is tall, he is handsome and he is a proud gay man. It was a pleasure to sit down with Cheyenne for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

At what age did performing become an interest of yours?

At the age of 7. Basically, it's always what I wanted to do.

When did you know performing was going to officially be your career?

Later in life. Not until I was almost 27.

How did it feel the first time you were on a Broadway stage?

Scary and exciting, but it felt right.

Who were your musical inspirations?

George Michael, Nat King Cole, Elton John and Elvis, to name a few.

You have been on Broadway, in films, on TV, performed live concerts, and recorded CDs. Is there one you like the best?

Whatever I am doing at the time is my favorite. So at this very moment it's live performing. I know that seems like a copout answer, but it's the truth.

I have to ask you, how was the experience working on "Liberace: Behind the Candelabra?"

It was great. Stephen Soderberg was really exciting to be around. It was also very fun to work with Michael Douglas and I knew Matt Damon from 30 Rock. It was a great buzzy project to be involved with.

You have sold out Carnegie Hall twice. What was that like?

It doesn't get more exciting than that. I was very proud, and my parents came. Honestly, it was fantastic!

You married your hubby Jason Landau in September. Tell me about the wedding, and how is it being a newlywed?

It's great being a newlywed. We are having a wonderful time with each other. The wedding was personal and beautiful with friends and family. It was everything we wanted it to be.

Describe yourself in three words.

Interested, excitable, hard-working, and emotional...okay, that's five words...LOL!

Are you excited to be performing at the Parker Playhouse as a benefit for Stonewall National Museum and Archives? What should people expect from your performance?

Expect a good time. Seth Rudetsky [has been] a friend for about 10 years and he is so entertaining. Shows with him are like "Inside the Actors Studio" meets a character. It is definitely going to be a fun time.

What does the future hold for Cheyenne Jackson?

I wish I knew.

Florida residents can catch Cheyenne Jackson at the Parker Playhouse, with SiriusXM radio star Seth Rudetsky as pianist and host, on Saturday, February 14, with a pre-show open bar and silent auction at 6 p.m. and the performance at 8 p.m. To purchase tickets, go to Stonewall-Museum.org or call (954) 763-8565. This is a benefit for the Stonewall National Museum and Archives.
