Tyne Daly Shares Oral History With League of Pro Theater Women

The League of Professional Theatre Women will present award-winning actress Tyne Daly for their next "Oral History" event, held on Oct. 7 at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library.

"Tyne is a wonderful actress and an outstanding musical performer. Having her express her thoughts and recollections about her life and career on videotape will be a valuable addition to the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive," said Betty Corwin, who produces the series. Daly will be interviewed by her friend, actor and producer John V. Fahey.

Daly's work as Mary Beth Lacey in TV's "Cagney and Lacey" earned her six Emmy nominations and four Emmys for Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She earned two Emmy nominations and the Emmy as Best Supporting Actress for her work on "Christy" and six nominations and the Emmy for "Judging Amy." Nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 2011 was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.

She recently created the role of Katharine Gerard in the world premiere of Terrence McNally's "Mothers and Sons" at the Bucks County Playhouse, where she also co-starred with James Earl Jones in "Love Letters." She appeared on Broadway, in London and in Washington, D.C., as the legendary Maria Callas in McNally's "Master Class."

The ongoing Oral History Project chronicles and documents the contributions of significant theatre women in many fields. The interviews are videotaped and preserved for posterity in the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Last year's featured speakers included Patti LuPone, Christine Ebersole and playwright Kia Corthron.

The League, which just celebrated its 30th anniversary, is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. It presents numerous events each year as part of its mission to promote visibility and increase opportunities for women in the field.

"Oral History" with Tyne Daly will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the Bruno Walter Auditorium of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, 65th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Tickets are free, but seating is limited.
