"American Horror Story" co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed on Twitter Thursday that the upcoming eighth season of the FX anthology series will, in fact, be the long-speculated crossover season between Season 1 "Murder House" and Season 3 "Coven."

Taking to Twitter, Murphy wrote the highly anticipated crossover season "won't be happening next year...because it's happening THIS YEAR. AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER."

Murphy has teased the possibility of a crossover season for some time now. Back in 2016, he revealed the idea that the show's first season and its third would have a crossover season. When asked at Entertainment Weekly's PopFest at the time if the season would be a prequel, sequel or something totally different, the out producer suggested the latter.

"We do know what we're going to do," Murphy said in 2016. "It's not going to be next season, but we are going to do a season that's a crossover between 'Murder House' and 'Coven' together, which is very bizarre."

He added: "There will be characters from 'Murder House' and characters from 'Coven' together."

"I've [already] started going to actors from both of the seasons, quietly, saying, 'I think in this window if you could fit us in,'" the producer said. "So yeah, it's fun. It's weird."

The eight season follows "AHS: Cult" from last year, which followed the 2016 presidential election.

Though not much is known about the upcoming season, Murphy mainstays Sarah Paulson, Even Peters and Kathy Bates are confirmed to star, along with Billy Lourd, who starred in "Cult." Newcomer Joan Collins will join the show, playing Peters' grandmother.

Just last week, Murphy teased Season 8, saying the upcoming season will be "unlike anything we've done before."

"You will see so many fan favorites return that you'll feel like it's The Love Boat," he told EW. "It's a very high concept."

He also teased there's "a big hook to" the season.

"There's a huge thing that happens in episode five," Murphy said.

"AHS" Season 8 will likely air in the fall.
